Our Location

Vancouver, BC: On the west coast of Canada, 38 kilometres (24 miles) from the US border, Vancouver is located between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains.

Vancouver, host city for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, is one of the world’s most livable cities. The weather is moderate, and September is widely regarded as one best times of the year.

The city of Vancouver has a population of 600,000 with a further two million in the surrounding Lower Mainland region.

English Bay

The race area will be on English Bay, a body of water eight kilometres (five miles) long, 6.5 kilometres (four miles) wide and open to the west. To the north, the Coast Mountains rise to 1,070 metres (3,500 feet).

There are no large ocean swells on English Bay as the area is sheltered by Vancouver Island, 64 kilometres (40 miles) to the west. The average wave height is rarely greater than 1 metre (3 feet), although a strong westerly can push it up to 2 metres (6 feet). The average wind speed is 8 knots and the typical current speed is half to three-quarters knots, although it can reach two knots, and the tidal range is 5 m (15 ft).

Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

Mobility Cup 2010 will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC) Jericho Station at Jericho Beach in English Bay, which has nearly 500 berths and dock space. It is located at 3811 Point Grey Rd. (west of Alma Street), Vancouver, B.C.

Established in 1903, RYVC has a century-long history of hosting regattas, building an international reputation for race management and on-shore facilities.
